Model 4200 Conductivity Meter

The measuring range of the Model 4200 Conductivity Meter of 0 to 199.9mS is covered by five automatically switched ranges using a single cell. Additionally, the in built software is able to calculate and report results as Total Dissolved Solids (T.D.S.) in mg/l, Salinity in g/l or Resistivity in MOhms. In T.D.S. mode the Model 4200 Conductivity Meter allows a variable factor to be applied to the measured conductivity value.

The unique measuring cell used on the Model 4200 Conductivity Meter is designed to cope with the harsh environments encountered in many field situations. Carefully configured solid state four plate construction guarantees a linear response over a wide conductivity range, whilst minimizing the effects of electrode fouling.

The Model 4200 Conductivity Meter can be standardized in two ways - a cell constant from 0.015 to 19.99 can be entered when a cell of known constant is being used. Alternatively, a calibration can be executed using a solution of known conductivity by entering its value via the set-up menu. A single point calibration automatically updates and displays the cell constant value. where measurements are to be made over a wide conductivity range, and close accuracy is of importance, this instrument offers two or three point calibration.

Solution conductivity varies significantly with temperature. For results to be meaningful, they should be reported referenced to an agreed value. The Model 4200 Conductivity Meter enables reference to three internationally encountered options of 18,20 and 25°C.

The degree to which solutions change their conductivity with respect to temperature (temperature coefficient) can be directly entered through the instruments set-up menu. Values between 0 and 4.00%/°C are available. Additionally, a "pure water" mode enacts the no-linear temperature coefficient characteristics associated with low conductivity water. The precision temperature sensing element built into the instruments cell will correct for temperature effects between 0 and 100°C and will measure the temperature displayed in either °C or °F.

The Model 4200 offers the facility to download data held in memory to a printer or computer. These units incorporate a bi-directional infra-red link which ensures that the waterproof characteristics of the products can be maintained at all times. The infra-red link operates in conjunction with the optional interface cradle, allowing data interchange without the inconvenience of plugs and sockets.
